Yosemite and the Sierra
I have enjoyed hiking, backpacking, and photographing in Yosemite and the nearby Sierra Nevada Mountains for the past 40 years. In April 2000 I was an artist-in-residence in Yosemite and made the photograph on the left, which is of the face of Half Dome from Mirror Lake. The cameras were 25 yards apart.

Hyper-Stereo Images
Hyper-Stereo refers to three dimensional images where the cameras are very far apart. This allows us to see depth in subjects such as clouds which we would not otherwise be able to see any depth in. Because our eyes are only 2-1/2 inches apart we would not see any depth in subjects which are farther than about 50 feet away. In this section the camera separation varies from 4 feet to about 400 feet depending on how far away the subject is and the focal length of the lens. The image on the left is Half Dome from Glacier Point. The cameras were 50 feet apart.

Death Valley
Death Valley is a very large National Park. It is also one of the hottest places in the world. Although it is very hot it also has some amazingly beautiful geological formations. The photo on the left is of a place called Zabriskie Point. It is a hyper-stereo with the cameras about 10 feet apart.

Ferns
In the past 3 years I have been photographing a lot of ferns using a pair of cameras which were converted to infrared. Infrared makes green foliage very light, so the ferns really stand out. Most of the ferns I ahve photographed have been in the Santa Cruz Mountains, although I have made a few in Marin, San Francisco, and Yosemite as well.

Other Plants Using Infrared
I have also photographed a lot of other plants around Santa Cruz and in other parts of the Bay Area. Infrared sensitivity makes green foliage turn very light.

Santa Cruz
I have lived in Santa Cruz County for the past 20 years. There are a lot of very beautiful landscapes in Santa Cruz both on the coast and in the mountains. There are 3 very beautiful State Parks in Santa Cruz County and Big Basin Redwoods State Park has some very beautiful waterfalls. The image on the left is called Natural Bridges and at the time I was there the number of pelicans flying by was astounding.
